Questions
How is Open Farm's kibble different from other kibble options?
Our passion to Do Some Good® for animals and the planet translates to knowing your pet is getting the best nutrition possible – animal welfare certified meats raised without antibiotics or added hormones, sustainable seafood, non-GMO fruits and veggies, and more. What is fishmeal and why is it used in this recipe?
We'd love to share that we intentionally include fish meal in our dry kibble recipes, as they provide extra nutrition! Fish meal, fish with the water removed, is a concentrated source of amino acids needed for healthy muscles and is a highly concentrated source of animal protein! There are many species of whitefish available. We source primarily hake or the freshest whitefish based on seasonal availability. Our whitefish meal is sustainably sourced and always ocean-caught, never farmed.
We rely on AAFCO guidelines for all our formulation requirements. The protein named in the title of our Recipe makes up at minimum 25% of the recipe per their guidelines!
Is salmon a good source of omega-3 fatty acids?
Yes, salmon is naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA, which help support healthy skin and a shiny coat. Omega-3s also help support joint, heart and brain health.
Is beef higher in fat or calories than chicken, turkey, or fish?
While beef tends to be higher in fat than other proteins like chicken, turkey or fish, our Grass-Fed Beef & Ancient Grains recipe is formulated to ensure fat levels are consistent across different formulas so that you can easily rotate between different recipes.
