Q: Do I need to rehydrate RawMix Recipes when serving?
A: Ideally, when feeding as a complete diet, our Freeze Dried Raw Morsels recipes should be re-hydrated with water or Bone Broth to re-hydrate to the raw analysis and provide ample amount of water in your pet’s diet. However, you don't have to with our RawMix as the morsels are not making up the bulk of Recipe. You can still choose to include water or Bone Broth as a topper as you might do with a traditional kibble. Especially if your pets really love that added moisture or are not the greatest drinkers and you want to boost their liquid consumption.
Q: Which Recipe is suitable for my large breed puppy?
A: We have a RawMix recipe that is suitable for everything your large breed pup needs! The Front Range Ancient Grains RawMix recipe is perfect for pups of all sizes. This delicious recipe combines Bone Broth coated kibble and delicious Freeze Dried Raw morsels for added boost of nutrition!
Our other RawMix recipes offerings do exclude the growth of large breed puppies due to the variation in calcium that may occur. We pack our recipes with real food ingredients which naturally have a variation in nutritional components such as vitamins and minerals. This means that due to this variation, the range of Calcium and Phosphorus for the other RawMix varieties can be outside the recommended range for large breed puppies. AAFCO sets a calcium maximum for large breeds at 1.8%. In our recipes, our whitefish meal is an amazing natural source of calcium for our pups! Fish and fish meal can have a variance in calcium levels from batch to batch and due to the nature of variations and to be absolutely certain we have excluded large breed puppies from the other varieties to ensure we are meeting the AAFCO requirements.
Q: Do I have to do a transition if switching to RawMix?
A: We formulate all our recipes to be rotational! This means that you can typically rotate from recipe to recipe without any transition period needed. However, as our RawMix recipes are slightly higher in protein then their original Ancient Grains or Grain-Free Recipe counterparts we suggest doing a mini-transition period, especially if your pet is known to have tummy troubles, has been eating the same recipe for a long time, or it’s their first time having a higher protein, multi-protein, or freeze dried raw diet!
Taking 7-10 days to do a small transition will ease your pup onto their new favorite Open Farm recipe!
Q: Can I still use toppers with RawMix?
A: Yes, you can still use our toppers with RawMix recipes! Although our RawMix Recipes are super tasty on its own, it’s always great to include your pet’s other favorite Open Farm Recipes as part of their diet to keep mealtimes interesting! You can still mix and match amongst our recipes to build the perfect bowl for your pet.
