What is fishmeal and why is it used in this recipe?

We'd love to share that we intentionally include fish meal in our dry kibble recipes, as they provide extra nutrition! Fish meal, fish with the water removed, is a concentrated source of amino acids needed for healthy muscles and is a highly concentrated source of animal protein! There are many species of whitefish available. We source primarily hake or the freshest whitefish based on seasonal availability. Our whitefish meal is sustainably sourced and always ocean-caught, never farmed.

We rely on AAFCO guidelines for all our formulation requirements. The protein named in the title of our Recipe makes up at minimum 25% of the recipe per their guidelines!

If I am feeding my dog 2 1/2 cups of food a day, how many servings are in a 22 lb bag of food?
The 22lbs bags of our Ancient Grains Recipes have approximately 105 cups of food in them! Therefore, if you are feeding your pup 2 1/2 cups per day, one bag would last about 42 days.
Is this food for adults or puppies or both?
The majority of our Ancient Grains Recipes, including our Homestead Turkey & Ancient Grains Recipe, are formulated for all-life stages, excluding the growth of large breed dogs - over 70lbs when fully grown! This means that you can feed these recipes to any adult dog or a small/medium breed puppy! If you are looking for an grain inclusive option for a large breed puppy, we would recommend our Puppy Recipe with Ancient Grains as this is formulated to be suitable for all dogs and puppies, including large breeds!
I am interested in how hot you cook the dry food. Is it extruded ? Is it cooked at low temperature? Thank you
All of our Dry Recipes use minimally processed ingredients that are extremely high quality such as humanely-raised meats, ocean-caught fresh fish, non-GMO locally sourced vegetables! We cook our Dry Recipes at a lower temperature to preserve its nutrients through the cooking process. We use a twin screw extruder instead of a single screw as this allows for a lower cooking temperature.
Is this food one that supports the growth of large puppies (including those over 70lbs?) thanks!
The majority of our Ancient Grains Recipes do exclude the growth of large breed puppies due to the variation in calcium that may occur. We always pack our recipes with real food ingredients to provide natural sources of vitamins and minerals. In our recipes, our whitefish meal is an amazing natural source of calcium for our pups! Fish and fish meal can have a variance in calcium levels from batch to batch and due to the nature of variations and to be absolutely certain we have excluded large breed to ensure we are meeting the AAFCO requirements. If you are looking for an grain inclusive option for your pup, I would recommend our Puppy Recipe with Ancient Grains as this is formulated to be suitable for all puppies, including large breeds!
Is open farm a rotational food? For example can I switch my dog from protein to protein? & would I have to do the 7 day transition for doing that or can I just do a quick switch?
We formulate all of our Dry Recipes to be rotational! This means that you can rotate from recipe to recipe without any transition period needed. Rotational diets are a great way to keep your pup healthy and thriving!
